about

lyrics

I don’t feel bad or sad that I don’t have a lot and
I’m grateful……. For what little I’ve got and
I try to forgive what can’t be forgotten
And I try to forget what can’t be forgiven

Outside my window I see a squirrel on the feeder
He sees me seeing him, but he doesn’t retreat, or
Even slow down his attempts to try and defeat
All the squirrel-proofin’ tricks I’ve tried, to teach him hard livin’

But it’s quieter 'round here than it usually is
There’s no cars speedin’ by, and there’s no screamin’ kids
From miles around I can hear all of the birds
Singing new songs that I have never heard
They gather and they scatter, they don’t care what it means
They soar and they fly and they float on the breeze
It’s all very peaceful, it’s a pastoral scene
While we are locked here in quarantine

That squirrel has snuck his way over, and then back under
His pea-sized brain I think must be the eighth wonder
My sunflower seeds he will rob and he will plunder
He’s proof that necessity’s the mother of invention

Lexi and Luci just stare mildly amused
They are inside cats, don’t have to hunt for their food
They never have to worry if their bowls will be renewed
While I feel increasing levels of apprehension

But it’s quieter round here than it usually is
There’s no cars speedin’ by, and there’s no screamin’ kids
From miles around I can hear all of the birds
Singing new songs that I have never heard
They gather and they scatter they don’t care what it means
They soar and they fly and they float on the breeze
It’s all very peaceful, it’s a pastoral scene
While we are locked here in quarantine

I don’t feel bad or sad that I don’t have a lot and
I’m grateful……. for what little I’ve got and
I try to forgive what can’t be forgotten
And I try to forget what can’t be forgiven
