I wanna sing with you on a delay. I wanna echo everything you say. Cuz I can't stand close to you. No I can't stand far away.

OASIS by Amy Elkins c. 2020 Don’t know what day it is anymore Just tryin to keep my head up above water How did it come to this? We’re stuck in quick sand Feel I’m slipping under, but then you reach out your hand Just like an angel sent from above Come here to save us on your lifeboat of love You’re my oasis We got nowhere to be so let’s slow down We got no company but each other And though you leave the dishes out And sometimes leave the seat up Well I wouldn’t want it any other way Because I love ya Just like an angel sent from above Come here to save us on your lifeboat of love You’re my oasis I feel so safe in your arms Let’s float away today You’re my oasis And I know well I know yes I know we’ll get through this Cause you’re my oasis (repeat)

Sun goes down, the stars come out, the moon is high. Day is done, sleep will come by and by. Sun comes up, the dewdrops fall, the birds sing high, Day begins, the life we’re in comes back alive. Day begins, the life we’re in comes back alive. Sun goes down, the stars come out, the moon is high. Day is done, sleep will come by and by. Sun comes up, the dewdrops fall, the birds sing high, Day begins, the life we’re in comes back alive. Day begins, the life we’re in comes back alive. Ooh… Sun goes down, the stars come out, the moon is high. Day is done, sleep will come by and by. Sun comes up, the dewdrops fall, the birds sing high, Day begins, the life we’re in comes back alive. Day begins, the life we’re in comes back alive. Day begins, the life we’re in comes back alive. Day begins, the life we’re in comes back alive.

Don’t know the man who picks up my garbage, Just know he comes and gets it every Tuesday night. Don’t know the girl who bags my groceries, But I like how she wraps the eggs up good and tight. Don’t know the bus driver in the third floor unit, I smile at her as she walks her annoying dog, Don’t know the firefighter who lives on the corner, But I sure love to watch him when he goes for a jog. Hmmmmmmmmm. . . I don’t know them, I don’t know them, I don’t’ know them, I don’t know them at all Don’t know the farmer who grows the avocados That I used to make the perfect lunch salad today. Don’t know guy who tested my water And made sure its safe to drink and tasted okay. Don’t know the folks who strung the power lines, But I’m glad they make my house so bright and warm. And I don’t know the cop patrolling the highway, I just know she wants to keep me safe from any harm. Hmmmmmmmmm. . . Why should I care what happens to them? They’re not my family, they’re not my friends? Maybe the question should be - Why should they care what happens to me? I don’t know the lab tech who sticks me with needles, I just know I never could do her job at all Don’t know the nurse who takes my blood pressure, But he makes me feel better just doing his job. Don’t know the EMT who raced to save me, And gave me a chance to try and fight this thing. I don’t know the doctors making the new vaccines I just know without them there’s no hope of winning. Hmmmm. . . I don’t know them, I don’t know them, I don’t’ know them, I don’t know them at all. Hmmmmm but I owe them, I owe them, I sure owe them, yeah, I owe them all. . .Don’t we all, ooh, don’t we all. . .

It’s okay to be weird, it’s okay to be wild It’s okay to be joyful like a child. It’s okay to be odd, it’s okay to be loud, Keep on laughing and keep standing proud. Do things your way, it’s okay, it’s okay. Do things your way, it’s okay. It’s okay to be scared, it’s okay to be tired, It’s ok to be mad when the world is on fire. It’s ok to be calm, it’s okay to be numb, Just keep going and more peace will come. Do things your way, it’s okay, it’s okay. Do things your way, it’s okay. It can be hard, just being you. Remember you’re fine, whatever you do- It’s okay to say yes, it’s okay to say no, It’s okay to love and let it show. It’s okay to hold back, it’s okay to take risks, No matter what, you’ve the right to exist. Do things your way, it’s okay, it’s okay. Do things your way, it’s okay.

When you're alone and life is making you lonely You can always go - downstairs. When you've got worries all the noise and the hurry Seems to help I know downstairs. Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city Linger by the freezer where the magnets are so pretty How can you lose? The lights are much brighter there You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares So go downstairs Things will be great when you're downstairs No finer place for sure downstairs Everything's waiting for you. Don't hang around and let your problems surround you There are movie shows downstairs. Maybe you know some little places to go to Where they never close downstairs. Just listen to the rhythm of a gentle bossa nova You'll be dancing with 'em too before the night is over Happy again. The lights are much brighter there You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares So go - downstairs Where all the lights are bright downstairs Waiting for you tonight downstairs You're gonna be alright now downstairs... And you may find somebody kind to help and understand you Someone who is just like you and needs a gentle hand to Guide them along. So maybe I'll see you there We can forget all our troubles, forget all our cares So go downstairs Things will be great when you're downstairs Don't wait a minute more downstairs Everything is waiting for you downstairs downstairs downstairs

I don’t feel bad or sad that I don’t have a lot and I’m grateful……. For what little I’ve got and I try to forgive what can’t be forgotten And I try to forget what can’t be forgiven Outside my window I see a squirrel on the feeder He sees me seeing him, but he doesn’t retreat, or Even slow down his attempts to try and defeat All the squirrel-proofin’ tricks I’ve tried, to teach him hard livin’ But it’s quieter 'round here than it usually is There’s no cars speedin’ by, and there’s no screamin’ kids From miles around I can hear all of the birds Singing new songs that I have never heard They gather and they scatter, they don’t care what it means They soar and they fly and they float on the breeze It’s all very peaceful, it’s a pastoral scene While we are locked here in quarantine That squirrel has snuck his way over, and then back under His pea-sized brain I think must be the eighth wonder My sunflower seeds he will rob and he will plunder He’s proof that necessity’s the mother of invention Lexi and Luci just stare mildly amused They are inside cats, don’t have to hunt for their food They never have to worry if their bowls will be renewed While I feel increasing levels of apprehension But it’s quieter round here than it usually is There’s no cars speedin’ by, and there’s no screamin’ kids From miles around I can hear all of the birds Singing new songs that I have never heard They gather and they scatter they don’t care what it means They soar and they fly and they float on the breeze It’s all very peaceful, it’s a pastoral scene While we are locked here in quarantine I don’t feel bad or sad that I don’t have a lot and I’m grateful……. for what little I’ve got and I try to forgive what can’t be forgotten And I try to forget what can’t be forgiven

People constantly give me looks, like I’m a character from their books; Dressed in orange from head to toe, think I’m a hunter but they don’t know; Life jacket, survival suit, stockpiles of orange fruits; I’m just taking it day by day, Orange skies don’t you go away; Orange is the color of survival; And I’ve been yellow, green, and blue; Orange is the color of survival; (I’m praying we can make it through); But I’ll change my spots to make it through; With this compulsion, to the point of revulsion, I’m eating oranges by the pound; Carrots and dried apricots, seem like the best thing of got to turn this whole thing around; At night I dream I’m out on the sea, With all this orange surrounding me; But there’s a tiger in my lifeboat, And I’m just tryin to stay afloat; Change my stripes to be more like him, would my outlook still be so grim; Or Will my plans go up in smoke, If I start telling him knock knock jokes; Maybe it’s a figment, to try and change your pigment, or become something that you are not; But now that I’m in jeopardy, see if this old leopard he, Possibly can go change his spots;

I start the day breathing - breathe in, breathe out As sleep from my mind is leaving - breathe in, breathe out This dread draped on like a blanket - breathe in, breathe out And all i know is to take it - breathe in, breathe out And when night comes, it comes too soon Just as it falls on every corner of this room calling me, (it’s) calling me That’s where you’ll find me If I could stop breathing - breathe out, breathe in My heart would stop beating - breathe out, breathe in Would dark thoughts stop reeling - breathe out, breathe in I’d finally stop feeling - breathe out, breathe in But when night comes, it comes too soon Just as it falls on every corner of this room calling me, (it’s) calling me That’s how you’ll find me [bridge - oooh, oooh] And when night comes, it comes too soon Just as it falls on every corner of this room calling me, (it’s) calling me Come on and find me And when night comes, it comes too soon Just as it falls on every corner of this room calling me, (you’re) calling me Come here and find me I start the day breathing - breathe in, breathe out It’s just my way of screaming - breathe in, breathe out breathe in, breathe out, breathe in…

If you blur your eyes Everything looks fine Lawn chairs line every drive Watching the show Of all these folks We didn’t know Finding new ways From feeling low Sunning above decks In the painting on the wall When I, hear a steamboat whistle call Rolling down my hall Ooo Hoo Rolling down my hall Offices all closed Economy is froze Damned if I know what tomorrow holds Tomorrow holds Rambling above decks In the painting on the wall When I, hear a steamboat whistle call Rolling down my hall Ooo Hoo Hear the steamboat whistle call Rolling down my hall Maybe we’ve been Racing ourselves And for what? Now, it’s hard to tell Ain’t it hard to tell? So let’s dance above decks In the painting on the wall Hear the steamboat whistle call Rolling down your hall Ooo Hoo Hear the steamboat whistle call Rolling down your hall Down your hall

(Chorus:) Breathe in, breathe out I raise my arms up high Breathe in, breathe out I close my eyes Each morning I unroll you Color of spring trees Like a carpet of soft moss You hold my weight with ease (Chorus) My mind shuts out the world A place to meditate I relax in your embrace ‘Til I’m in a peaceful state (Chorus) (Bridge:) I can jump, kick and roll Do sit-ups and lift weights You get me through my workout Until I’m feeling great (Instrumental - Chorus) You’re gentle when I’m sore Let me rest when I am tired So I rise to greet the day Refreshed, renewed, inspired

I tell my self stories My ego thinks silly things Never alone in the comfort of home Wishing you well on phone Strawberries raspberries Gypsy’s elves and fairies singing this tune in the light of the moon Hoping I’ll see ya real soon I found peace In that place right between My eyes when they’re open and closed bending the light as it glows I observed I wondered I questioned I pondered And so it goes, where we’ll be no one knows I like to watch it all grow I am enjoying the show

VERSE 1 The walls are thin the floors are creaky Wind rattles glass in every pane But the fire is warm and you’re beside it I can’t wait to be back home again CHORUS When I’m home Where the light shines in the garden When I’m home When I’m home Where the laughter floats out on the twilight breeze It is everything I need When I am home VERSE 2 I know your footfall in the hallway The tune you hum with every task Without a word you fill the silence I’m so glad to be back home at last CHORUS BRIDGE Still I wander After some elusive dream No matter how far I roam it seems You always lead me home Where the light shines in the garden When I’m home Where the laughter floats out on the twilight breeze It is everything I need When I am home MUSIC When I’m home Where your light shines in the garden When I’m home Where your laughter floats out on the twilight breeze It is everything I need When I am home You are everything I need When I am home You are everything I need You are home

Musicians are particularly hard-hit in this COVID-19 pandemic, with concerts and choirs and appearances cancelled and lessons tabled for the foreseeable future.

Musicians also are bound together by a hope and drive to connect and create beauty from good and bad times and all the times in between. Emily Joy was struck by the glorious music being shared in closed groups online as writers sang new songs over and over, new song after new song. We want you to hear them, too. These songs are for all of us, and we will make it through.

All proceeds will go to:

The COVID-19 Arts Aid PHL Fund

and
